ADP Payroll Pricing Explained (and How to Get a Lower Quote)
ADP does not publish pricing for RUN Powered by ADP. As of November 2026, small businesses that have shared quotes report roughly $79 per month plus a per-employee fee on the Essential package, billed per pay run, with 10-employee companies on biweekly payroll paying $200 to $350 per month once common add-ons are included. First-year promotions (often three months free) are standard, and year-two increases are common.

The four RUN packages
RUN comes in Essential, Enhanced, Complete and HR Pro. Essential covers payroll, tax filing and new-hire reporting. Enhanced adds check signing, garnishment processing and state unemployment insurance management. Complete adds HR support and an employee handbook wizard. HR Pro adds an enhanced HR help desk and training. Most businesses under 20 employees are quoted Essential or Enhanced.
Why ADP quotes are hard to compare
ADP prices per pay run plus per employee, not per month. A quote of "$X per payroll" must be multiplied by your pay runs per month (about 4.33 for weekly, 2.17 for biweekly, 2 for semimonthly). Add-ons such as year-end W-2 delivery, multi-state, and time tracking are itemized. Always ask for an annual total at full price, after promotions end.
How to negotiate
- Get a Paychex quote first and tell ADP you have it.
- Ask for the W-2 and 1099 fees to be waived.
- Ask for the renewal rate in writing (year-two increases of 10% to 20% are common).
- Ask whether a two-year commitment lowers the rate.
- Ask your accountant; CPAs in ADP's partner program often unlock discounts.
When ADP is the right answer
ADP wins when you want retirement plans, health benefits, workers' comp and HR from the vendor your accountant already uses, when you expect to pass 50 employees, or when you operate multiple entities. For a simple team under 10 with one state, Gusto or OnPay cost less and publish prices.
